Mandatory Health Insurance for Students
To protect our students, Stanford requires that all students have health insurance. As a precautionary measure, all registered students are automatically enrolled in Cardinal Care insurance at the beginning of each quarter. If you are providing health insurance for your student, or if your student is covered through other means, they must take action to waive Cardinal Care insurance to avoid unnecessary charges.
Important Information About Waiving Cardinal Care Insurance
- Students must waive the insurance by the posted deadlines to avoid quarterly insurance costs being charged to their University bill.

- Students can waive as many quarters as they like within the current academic year.
- Students cannot waive Cardinal Care insurance for future academic years until the academic year starts.
- The health insurance waiver form is available in the student's Axess portal.
